Almost a decade after running Brooklyn Beta, we decided to return to our roots with a small, friendly web conference.
When we reached out to folks to tell them about it, we shared this as our reasoning.
In some ways, this is a terrible time for a conference:
People are getting laid off.
A recession is here / coming.
Web3 is being overrun by fraudsters.
AI is posing a potentially existential threat.
And the world is kind of a mess, generally.
But isn't it during difficult times like these that we all should be together?
We want to take this opportunity to examine and confront these challenges. It’s also the perfect moment for a mid-career check-in and a shared exploration of things to be hopeful for and excited about in the decade to come.
We underestimated just how overdue and meaningful this kind of in-person event really was. We still feel nourished by the people we spent time with a year later.
